My overall ident campaigns.
Is for the CITV channel. Their idents are bright, colourful and easy to understand. Their animations involve the CITV logo. One of their current ident animations is when 'C' from CITV finds a treasure chest under the ocean.
Freeview has asked to make an ident a 60 second ident or two 30 second idents from one of the channels on their TV platform. I chose to do one 1-minute ident. I wanted to focus on one ident according to the brief and to my liking, especially as stop motion cut out animation can be time consuming. My CITV ident was inspired by the TV programme Art attack which was aired on CITV and by the painter Bob Ross. The story of my cut-out animation is that 'C' from CITV is impersonating Bob Ross and is painting the coconut from the TV programme Art Attack the coconuts name is 'Vincent Van Coconut'. However, he later takes a step back and realises he hates the painting. C then chews up the whole canvas and spits it out. C stomps over the crumpled chewed-up ball of paper. A speech bubble appears, C hovers over it and paints the bubble revealing the CITV logo. This keeps the young audience entertained while still informing them about what channel they are watching and what TV programme is up next.
Visuals and audio
I imported all of my pictures into final cut pro. However, my clips were too long so I shortened them and decided which ones to keep and delete. I kept record of this in my rushes log.
After gaining audience feedback I moved onto editing the final ident. I did not have to make any drastic changes to my ident. I added some effects and transitions etc. to make it a bit more appealing. And put sound effects and music onto my ident. Such as when there is paper crumbling a sound effect is added or when paint is used there is sound effects of paint splashes. I have used copyright free music which was fun and upbeat throughout the whole video. This was done to attract the viewer not only visually but also audibly. To keep the audience engaged and providing them a better experience. I also put the CITV logo image at the end of the ident to really it seems like a bit more like how the ident would look if it were to be really put on the CITV channel. Because it is conventional.
I used mainly the same type of shot, wide shot. However, I have still used a bit of different types of shot types such as close up and zoom ins to give it variety and to keep the audience's attention.
I did this because I wanted the animation to be cohesive, whilst still keeping it engaging for the audience. I think adding effects in the editing process and the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds really makes the ident attract attention from the viewers. And telling a story through picture cut out drawings in an animation really makes it engaging for the audience as they need to watch the full ident to understand the situation.
In summary I have made an ident for CITV channel on Freeview by completing all the necessary pre-production, production and postproduction while considering the brief. The 30 second Ident I have made is a cut out animation as this is something a bit artier and would appeal to kids, especially the bright colours and the stop motion. This may give them inspiration to try something like this as well. The sound effects help tell the young audience more about what is happening on screen and makes it goofier and more enjoyable for the younglings.
Similarities and differences between the original idea and the final idea.
My original idea to was to just have 'C' as the main character in whatever ident I produce. And I wanted it to make it fun. But I was lacking inspiration, so I went ahead to google and typed up some CITV programmes and I saw that art attack was on the list. This is when I got a little more inspiration and decided that I wanted to do something arty and creative but still wanted to keep it a little simple, and clear enough for the young audience to understand. This is when the idea of an animation inspired by the mix of Art Attack and the painter Bob Ross struck me. I thought about it for a little bit. However, I decided against it when I went on YouTube and saw a lot of the animations was stop motion, like Legos or play dough. But because I didn't have Legos or any play doughs that fit the theme. I landed on the idea of a cut out animation.
